DEACONS
The Deacons
are the official arm of the church that ministers to those in need and
help promote a sense of fellowship and community within our
congregation. The Deacons oversee our Nurture and Fellowship
Commissions, the monthly preparation for our Communion celebration;
Sunday snacks prior to the church school hour; the visitation of our
shut-ins; and our blood drive program.
The Nurture
Commission fosters the general care and expresses concern for church
members through get-well and sympathy notes. They oversee a helping
hands list for members who are in need of meals, a ride, or other
services. Care packages are prepared for college students and military
personnel. A recent addition to the Nurture Commission is the position
of Parish Nurse who acts as a resource for people with medical needs or
who need medical information.
The Fellowship
Commission provides programs and activities that strengthen
congregational fellowship. Monthly receptions are provided after the
11:00 a.m. worship service, two congregational theme dinners are held
each year, and a fall ice cream social kicks off the programmatic year.
They also oversee our small group ministry including Monday morning
fellowship, Wednesday evening Bible study, low impact aerobics and other
short-term groups of varying subjects and interests as suggested by
church members.

Will you be a
helper?
Your Nurture Commission is setting up a running list of people who would
be willing to help with food on an “on call” basis when a member of our
church family is housebound and has no relatives in the area. If you
would be willing to assist, please add your name to the sign up sheet on
the bulletin board across from the office or contact Janice Mummert at
938-3730.
Our Food Barrel
could use a boost!
Nonperishable items for the barrel may be brought to the church any day
of the month (not just the 1st Sunday). Please remember to pick up a few
items for the barrel as you do your weekly food shopping. Your help will
be appreciated.
Volunteer drivers are needed: We
the deacons are in the process of updating a list of folks who
would be willing to drive Church members to and from church
services, other church activities, medical appointments and
other errands. If you would be interested in helping with this
service please let one of us know either by phone or e-mail. It
is important that we serve our members in need of this service.
In addition we need the folks that could use this service to let
us know so we can coordinate the service. Thank you! Please
contact Betty Butler at 737-3062 or
bogybetz@aol.com
or Marcy Irvin at 737-9009 or

From the Deacons:
Flour to Flower ~
Did you know that the Deacons generate income for their
expenses through the sale of the donuts and coffee that are available
during the Sunday school hour? If you haven't enjoyed this Sunday
morning treat, please stop by. A suggested donation for items is
$.75 for donuts or bagels and $1.00 for coffee. The money we make
from donut and coffee sales is used to purchase birthday flowers for
those on the shut-in list and to cover other small expenses incurred by
our commission. Thank for your continued support.
DEACON NEWS: Kitchen
“Refreshment” ~
Did you know
that one of the jobs the Deacons typically undertake during the course
of the year is cleaning the church kitchen? This year the Deacons took
the job one step further. In conjunction with congregational volunteers
who couldn’t pass up the opportunity to enjoy a mission trip experience
at home, the Deacons have given the church kitchen a fresh new look.
The biggest task – removing the wallpaper – was, of course, completed
during the hottest part of the summer.
A big thank you goes out to Gloria Anderson, Donna
Blosser, Jim Davis, Bill Denham, Ken Weller, and Lindsey, Rachel and
Cathy Wedemeyer for their tireless work removing the wallpaper and
cleaning the walls of glue residue! Plaster patching or “mudding” was
completed by Deb Davis. The painting was undertaken by Rick and Louise
Sis, Susan Durgin, and Dave Click. Other odd jobs that contributed to
the successful completion of the project were ably undertaken by Phil
Durgin, Jim Ramsey, and Dave Click.
