MUSIC MINISTRY

We worship and celebrate God’s love for us through a strong music program.  Christ Presbyterian Church has two active choirs and has a bell choir program

The ADULT CHOIR is a very balanced ensemble of approximately forty-four members.  This choir provides all service music as well as special anthems and offertories for our 11:00 a.m. worship.  They also provide solos and special music for our 8:30 a.m. worship service and summer services.

Repertoire for the choir includes everything from classic to contemporary, from very serious to very spirited.  Rehearsal is held each Thursday evening at 7:30 - 9:00 (with occasional opportunities for overtime.)  There are no formal auditions….just a sincere love of singing and a desire for fun and warm fellowship with a wonderful group of folks!

Our YOUTH CHOIR at Christ Presbyterian meets each Sunday morning from 9:25 to 9:45.  All youth from first grade up are welcome.  This choir provides special anthems approximately once a month for the 11:00 a.m. worship service and is responsible for all of the music at the 7:00 Christmas Eve Service.  The youth have also presented musicals through the years featuring everyone from Daniel and De-Lion, Moses and Noah, to Zerubbabel!

We have an active 3 OCTAVE HANDBELL CHOIR that plays at selected worship services throughout the year.

Handbell Choirs: Both the Adult and Youth Handbell Choirs are seriously looking for "Ringers". Our Adult ensemble is looking for at least two people who have some ringing background, to serve as frequent substitutes. Our Youth Handbell Choir is still in desperate need of two ringers to complete their ranks. (Youth- 4th grade and up.) If you are interested, or know of someone who might be good in either group, please call Lou Ann at 576-9764, or email her at louapotter@comcast.net.  Thank you!!

Lou Ann Potter is our Music/Choir Director.

Repeat the Sounding Joy”……

Martin Luther once said that “next after theology, I give to music the highest place and the greatest honor.”  In 1545, the year before his death, Luther wrote in the    preface to the Babst Hymnal, “Geistliche Lieder”:  “Sing to the Lord a new song: sing to the Lord all the earth!  (Ps. 96:1) For our heart and spirit have been made joyful through God’s dear Son, who was offered for us to redeem us from sin and death. Those who earnestly believe this cannot keep quiet about it, they must sing about it joyfully and exult over it and speak about it so that others also hear and come to it.”

Wouldn’t you like to join others in sharing your gift and talent with us in one of these groups? It doesn’t matter if you’ve sung in a choir before, no prior experience is needed, just a willingness to learn. And for those of you who are a little shy when it comes to singing, or consider yourself maybe a little “vocally challenged,”  that’s why there are handbells!

Adult Choir rehearsal is on Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 P.M. First rehearsal is on the first Thursday in September. Adult Handbell Choir also rehearses on Thursday evenings, and our first rehearsal is on the second Thursday of September at 6:30 P.M.

Our Youth Choir, for youth from 1st grade and up, meets on Sunday mornings at 9:20, immediately after the early worship service. We invite all youth to come join us at our  rehearsal on Sunday morning.

Statistics have shown that across the country, choir numbers have continued to diminish through these last ten years. It seems that the busier that lives become, the less one is able to commit to the extra-hours required to be a choir member. But if we do not continue to make this commitment, our sanctuaries will soon become silent……………..  Won’t you please consider joining us, as we continue to “Repeat the Sounding Joy! “

If you have any questions about the Music Ministry at Christ Presbyterian, please call Lou Ann at 576-9764, or email her at louapotter@comcast.net.

“The riches of music are so excellent and so precious, that words fail me whenever I attempt to discuss and describe them. Music is the greatest treasure in the world, next to the Word of God”
