Our church has
a new group of people who knit prayer shawls for those in need of
comfort. We began with a group from Esther Circle who heard about
the idea from other churches and wanted to start a group of our own.
People knit
prayer shawls for many different reasons. We knit to console those
who are grieving, comfort those who are ill, and give hope to those
who despair. We also knit for new mothers and children, to
celebrate anniversaries, personal accomplishments, and joyful
moments. If one could wear the heartfelt sentiments in a greeting
card, it would be a prayer shawl.
We welcome all
who want to knit or crochet. The patterns are easy and there are
those who knit and will be glad to teach you. We meet the 1st and
3rd Mondays of the month at 1 p.m. at the church for about two
hours. This
month the group will meet on July 5 & 19.
Although much of our knitting is done at home, we like the
chance to “catch up” and socialize. The shawls are blessed before
they are given and we hope to see many new members join our group.
Looking for
ways to help: you can let us know when a member or friend could use
a prayer shawl or donate yarn or size 11 round knitting needles to
the group.
