REACHING OUT

We are a congregation of faith in action. As a response to God’s grace to us, we reach out into the community in a variety of ways.

  • Habitat for Humanity - several work crews regularly participate in building homes for the needy.
  • The Ecumenical Food Pantry - where, each month, members help organize and distribute food to needy individuals and families.
  • Downtown Daily Bread - where the congregation subsidizes and volunteers serve meals each Wednesday in downtown Harrisburg.
  • CONTACT - congregation members volunteer time on this telephone crisis helpline.
  • Financial support is provided to a variety of organizations such as PA Coalition on Food and Nutrition, Channels, and Cedar Cliff High School Multicultural Task Force.
  • Mission Trips – the church family has committed to helping the Presbyterian Churches of Honduras.  Additionally, we will be working in Appalachia, doing construction in Elkhorn, West Virginia, in the fall of 2008.
  • Lend-A-Hand - a faith-based group has made several trips south to provide disaster relief.

In trying to respond to needs and to enable change, we are kept informed of community concerns and legislative issues through church bulletin inserts and "Connections", our monthly congregational newsletter.

If you'd like to participate in any of these activities, please contact our church office for further information.

WE’RE NOT JUST A CHURCH

Christ Presbyterian Church is interested in supporting the community by opening our building for use as a meeting place for a variety of groups and organizations. Some examples are:

  • Girl Scouts Daisy Troops and Cub Scouts
  • Aerobics, yoga, adult volleyball
  • Barbershoppers
  • Audubon
  • Bible studies, book club, bridge groups
  • West Shore Coterie
  • Allendale Association, and many more

Should you belong to a community service organization that has a need in this area, please contact the church office
