Calling All Knitters/Crocheters

History of CPC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry

About 20 years ago, while attending church services in Duck, NC, Betty Butler noticed there was a group of knitters at the church who made prayer shawls. She visited this gathering and the lovely ladies gave her the information to get started. Originally supported by the Esther Circle, who gave us funds to buy yarn and other supplies, we have been privileged to give shawls to church members and friends and family of church members. We have donated shawls to Hershey Medical Center, Bethany Village, Lend-A-Hand mission trips, area nursing homes and Meals on Wheels clients. Each shawl is made with love and a tag is attached to the shawl to say where it was made. Every few months, the newest shawls are blessed during our church service. We estimate that we have made and donated 2000+ prayer shawls! Hats, mittens, scarves and baby afghans have also been crafted by our group.

There is very loyal group of about 10 ladies. Some of us knit, some of us crochet and we have one member who does counted cross stitch. We have prayer, serious discussions and not so serious discussions, lots of laughs and wonderful fellowship. We meet the first and third Mondays of the month in the church library at 1:00. If by chance you are interested in learning how to knit or crochet, we have all the supplies you will need. We also boast a lady of Scottish heritage who is no doubt the best knitting teacher this side of Scotland!

We also plan to have lunch out on the first Monday of the month at 11:30 (restaurant to be decided each month) before knitting. Our next lunch will be held at Guiseppe’s Brothers on 18th Street, beside Highland Gardens, in Camp Hill.

Please join us, all are welcome!!!
